Estimated & Actual Hours

We wanted to take this opportunity to explain to you how we actually bill for our services.

As we state throughout the web site, the prices listed on our web site are approximate costs based upon what we estimate the total hours to perform the services will be.  One can logically figure out that an hour is … well, an hour.  But, when it comes to the Billable hours, that is a little different.

Lets look at one specific task, and draw a comparison for you.  Scanning a PC for a Virus or Malicious software.  There are two ways for us to calculate that time.  One way generates a greater fee for us, and the other saves you a significant amount of money.

For a PC with a 500GB hard drive, using about 75GB of that space for software and personal data, a single full scan can take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours, depending on the age of the PC, the CPU, the fragmentation of the hard drive, how much Memory the system has … and if it has any malicious software on it, etc.  Considering that time strictly from a cost factor – for you, the customer – you’re looking at a cost of $40 – $120.00 (at our rates, which are the lowest in town).  That would be the cost if we came to your site, sat there at the PC and waited for the scan to complete.  If we had the PC at our location, or could perform the scan remotely (typically overnight), then we can initiate the scan, and move on to other work.  The actual man-hours, or billable hours, for that single, full scan would typically be just 15 minutes.  That’s $10, saving you, the customer, from $30 to $110 in this example.  When we clean your system, we will perform a minimum of 2 full scans, and one simple scan after we’ve completed to verify the system is clean.  While the actual time for those scans will be average from 3 – 7 hours, we will only be billing you for maybe 1 hour for those scans.  You can be assured of this, also … nobody else in town will be doing what we do, because it can become cost prohibitive – for them.  It cuts into their profits.

For that reason, we will often initiate work on-site, and then complete those tasks remotely from our location (with your authorization, obviously).  Obviously, everything depends on your circumstances.  but, by performing these kinds of tasks at our location, or remotely, we can initiate numerous processes that can each take a couple of hours by themselves, but only bill you for a small percentage of the actual time.  Our techs won’t have to sit in front of the PC during the lengthy scan and clean process, thus keeping the cost to you down to the bare minimum.  You will be billed for the actual “man-hours” applied to this job.

The estimated hours posted to our site are based on this kind of application.  If you prefer that we perform everything on-site, at your location, then we’ll have to charge for the full amount of time the tech spends there.  That can become prohibitive, especially for the individual and small business.

What People Say

“I’ve never before worked with a tech company that actually had the customer’s best interest at heart. Trip paid for me, from his own pocket, to have some software because it was required to resolve my problem.”

— L. Romero, Albuquerque, NM

“Trip – You saved me again. And again. And again.”

— C. Willliams, Ruidoso, NM

“If the makers of computers cared as much for customers as Trip does, then maybe Trip would not be needed. Thankfully, Trip is as stable and competent as they come.”

— P. Gonzales, Albuquerque, NM
