Optimize & Maintain

Sometimes it’s the most basic tasks that can make or break a situation.  Like brushing one’s teeth.  Start young, do it regularly, and we’ll be biting into a healthy apple at the age of 70.  On the other hand, don’t do so, and we’ll be soakin’ them teeth in a cup by 50.  That’s what maintenance is … with the proper kind of basic & regular care, your computer will serve you long past the warranty.

Single PC Tune-up

We’ll discuss what programs live on your PC, and determine what you no longer want to keep.  Then, we’ll perform a basic Spyware/Virus Scan on your PC.  If the scan turns up anything other than “Cookie” files, we’ll stop and consult with you.  At this point, you’ll need to decide whether or not you’d like to have the Virus/Spyware Removal service performed.  If you choose not to, we’ll stop the work and charge you the lesser fee for a Home Consultation, and work will end.  If you delivered the computer to our location, we will deliver the system back to you.

If no Spyware or Virus’ are found, then we’ll perform the following tasks on your PC:

• Clean the inside of the Computer (NOT part of the Remote Service)
• Remove the unwanted programs you specified
• Optimize the startup and shutdown process, as well as the way Windows uses your RAM/Memory
• Verify that your Internet Browsers have proper protective security functions enabled
• Clean your system of unnecessary junk files left behind by older installations, internet browsing, etc
• Verify that all necessary Windows updates are installed
• Clean and Defragment your Windows Registry File; and
• Defragment the main, system hard drive (your C:\Drive)
• Make any recommendations on ways to improve the performance of the system.

If you delivered the system to our location prior to 1pm, we’ll do everything we can to return your PC by 5pm the following day, or at a convenient time for you in the evening.  Otherwise, we’ll make arrangements for you to pick up your system (if you drop off and pick up your own system, we’ll give you a $15 Trip Discount, as specified on our Rates page.)

Full PC Backup (Clone) / Data Backup & Schedule

We will gladly install a very useful Backup & Cloning Utility that will make your life so much easier; And, save you a MAJOR crisis in case your system or hard drive crashes, or you a major malware or virus infections.  This utility allows for the complete “Cloning,” or duplication, of your system, as well as both FULL and INCREMENTAL backups which can be scheduled to take place on a regular basis.  We will perform the following Tasks:

• Install the Cloning and Backup Utility;
• Configure the software to perform regularly scheduled Full and Incremental backups;
• Walk you through the process of performing a “Clone” of your entire system, and educate you on the practice of regular Backups;
• Initiate the first “Clone” of your system;
• Follow up the next day, to confirm the success of both the “Clone” and Full Data Backup;
• Demonstrate how an Incremental Backup works;
• Demonstrate how to Restore your data.

You’ll need to supply the Hard Drive and USB cable to be used for this purpose.  If you don’t have one available, we suggest any Western Digital or Seagate external hard drives.  1 TB drive can now be purchased for for as low as $69.  2TB –  3TB internal drives are around the same price.  We would be happy to install that for you, if you would like.  We can direct you to a great web site to make your purchase, where delivery is fast, and customer service is exceptional.

* NOTE * – Trip Enterprises doesn’t necessarily advocate for “online” backup practices.  Why?  Because we have serious reservations about the safety of your information.  Think about it for a moment.  How many times have you heard in the news – in the past 6 months – that some bank, credit card company, retail store, Social Network web site, or other institution has been “hacked,” and their customer data compromised?  More than we’re comfortable with.  Call us “old school,” be we believe it is best to leave your data at home.  Still … if you want to use this kind of service, we’ll lead you toward the best possible solution.  Just do a Google search for “hacked,” first.  Then we’ll talk about it.
